Does Acetone Cause Cancer?
Short answer: NO! Acetone is not considered a cancer-causing chemical.

Recently, It has come to my attention that there have been health concerns in regards to the use of acetone in a legal nail salon or at home for personal use. I’ve been using acetone for over 46 years. These rumors are false. I have never had a client ever complain about any type of foul odor in my nail salon or odor complaints about the products I use during a service. In fact, everyone compliments how great my space smells. Even my male clients love the aromas from the spa products I use during my manicures and pedicures. With that said, acetone is NOT a carcinogen.
I have worked in the beauty industry for 35+ years. I am a master at my craft and take my profession very seriously. I am passionate about what I do and about the quality of how I provide my services. Providing a safe and healthy environment for me and my clients is my top priority! I am very particular about the products I use both personally and professionally for my business. Each product I use is meticulously chosen and must meet the highest professional standard of approval. I invest in only the best products on me and on my clients.
So if you ever experience someone capitalizing on your anxiety by spreading rumors. Put on your critical thinking cap and ask yourself, is this true? It is up to you to do your due diligence and educate yourself. I am very transparent with my clients and when they have questions, I give straight forward answers. My nail salon is inspected every year for safety, and health concerns, and to make sure that everything is up to code. Please be advised that there are 3 types of information in the world.
- Misinformation:Mistaken information.
- Disinformation:Intentional & deceitful information.
- Malinformation: True information intended to harm.
Make sure the source of the rumor is reliable. It is important to have a great relationship with your nail technician. Not all nail techs and/or nail salons are trained, licensed, or operate to the highest professional standard. It is important that when you walk into any nail salon, make sure you see credentials posted in plain view, a license to practice, a business license to operate a nail salon, the price of beauty notice. Lastly, the most important, a recent copy of a passed inspection on the wall, this is to ensure that you’re walking into a safe legitimate establishment. And if you don’t see these documents, you have the legal right to ask to see them. If the environment has an overwhelming smell of chemicals in the air, LEAVE!

I have been to Betty’s salon and never smelled anything strong or chemical. If someone has a concern, they should address her about it directly.

Even if my business is legal, they might feel a loss of control over their neighborhood environment, and feel territorial and resent any change that they do not approve of, including being successful with a legal home-based business.
Betty G is a true professional in her craft. She has been my nail tech for approximately a year. I have never been dissatisfied with any of her work. One thing she prides herself in is cleanliness. Her shop is always immaculate! One thing that I appreciate about her shop is there is never a strong smell of any products she uses. I read the complaint that was submitted against her about a strong smell of acetone coming from her shop. That is completely ridiculous! There aren’t any structures that close to her to be exposed to any smell. Her windows and doors are always closed in the shop. I will continue to support Betty G 100 percent!

Every time I visit Betty G at her nail spa, the atmosphere and the smell is aesthetically pleasing. I personally am highly sensitive to strong, smelling odors and chemicals, so I can attest that I have never had an experience with Betty G to where I smell strong chemical odors. I am able to sit with her for hours getting my nails done in pure comfort.
